Checking Door Sensors (Latch and Arm Sensors)

Checking Door Sensors (Latch and Arm Sensors)

You may need to find out what is going on with the Door Sensors if you are having unlocking/locking errors.  You can also find more troubleshooting ideas here for unlocking/locking errors.

Finding Latch and Arm Sensor Data running on firmware 3.40.00 and above:

Go into Settings ---> NarcBox Info ---> Tech info ---> See below "RFID #" the info for the Door sensors labeled 'Latch' and 'Arm'

You will want to make note of both of these numbers when:
  1. the door is open
  2. the door is closed with the latch locked
  3. the door is closed and you squeeze/push the door inward you will want to make a note of the 'Latch' number.  We like to see that first number below 2000.  If it hits 2800 or above it determines the door is open and will trigger a "Forced Open" alert.
When looking at the 'Latch' and 'Arm' sensor info you will notice that they will fluctuate.  That is normal.  Just pick the numbers you see soon after getting to that screen.  If the numbers are fluctuating by the 100's or 200's that could be an issue, so make note of that or tell the Customer Service Representative if you have called in.  Remember to get both numbers when the door is open and when the door is closed and locked.

Finding Latch and Arm Sensor Data running on firmware 3.30.02 and below:

Go into Settings ---> System ---> Tech Info ---> See below "RFID #" the info for the Door sensors (first number is the Latch sensor info and second number is the Arm sensor info)

You will want to make note of both of these numbers when:
  1. the door is open
  2. the door is closed with the latch locked
  3. the door is closed and you squeeze/push the door inward you will want to make a note of the highest number that the first number reads.  We like to see that first number below 2000.  If it hits 2800 or above it determines the door is open and will trigger a "Forced Open" alert.
When looking at the 'Door' sensor info you will notice that they will fluctuate.

In order for NarcBoxes to pass Quality Control (QC), Door/Latch and Arm sensor #'s are around the following:
      - Door Open - 3000+ (first set of numbers) and 0-99 (second set of numbers)
      - Door Closed and locked - Below 2000 (first set of numbers) and 4095 or close to that (second set of numbers)
***With the door closed and locked, you will want to make sure that the first set of numbers is not 2800 and above as the box will think the door is unlocked.***

The second number on the 'Door' line or 'Arm' is the status of the locking mechanism arm.  We don't have anything systematically in place for the number to trigger something, however when the number is high (usually in the 4000) then it is in the locked position.  When that number is low (typically in the 0050) then it is not locked.

Here are some things to double check if your sensors are off:

1. Was this box recently installed into a vehicle?  If newly installed, it's possible the frame was tweaked while installing. Loosen what was used (ex: nuts and bolts) to install the box.  Also make sure when installing that the frame doesn't move.  If the frame is tweaked you can tell by how the door sits and if there is more space between the frame at the top or bottom of the door.  The door should normally sit in the center.  Contact us by submitting a ticket, emailing at support@narcbox.com, or call us at 888-627-2269 and let us know if re-installing it doesn't work and/or what the sensors read.

2. Was the box recently reinstalled (from being in another vehicle, a spare box now being used or out for repairs) or was the vehicle driven on a rough road?  Sometimes these things can cause these sensors to be higher than normal.  If the box was recently reinstalled, see above for information on how to see if the frame is tweaked.  Contact us by submitting a ticket, emailing at support@narcbox.com, or call us at 888-627-2269 and let us know if re-installing it doesn't work and/or what the sensors read.

3. If the NarcBox has been in that vehicle for a while then let's check the door sensors to see if they are out of normal specifications.  See how to do that at the beginning of this article.  If the sensors are out of the normal range for QC and continue to trigger "Forced Open" alerts or is unlocking/locking when it shouldn't then please contact us by submitting a ticket, emailing at support@narcbox.com, or call us at 888-627-2269 and let us know if re-installing it doesn't work and/or what the sensors read so we can double check some things with you.  Most likely the NarcBox will need to come in for repair, but we may have a few things up our sleeve to check.
