Biometric Capability

Each NarcBox can be equipped with a Biometric sensor.  This is an additional option that will need to be chosen at time of purchase. Below is an image to help determine if your NarcBox is equipped with the Biometric sensor or not.

To activate the Biometric capability please follow the below steps:

In your online account, you will need to enable biometric access for each user.   You can find this in the Users tab, hover over the 'Actions' on the User line and press the Edit button.  At the bottom of the pop up screen, toggle on to 'Enable Biometric Credential Access' and Save.

Next you will need to allow Biometrics on the NarcBox.  You will find this in the NarcBox tab, select the NarcBox and press the Edit button.  Select the checkbox for 'Has Biometrics Capabilities' and Save.

Then you will need to allow Biometrics as a Security Access.  You can find this in the Settings tab, select the Security section, scroll down to Security Profiles.  Select the checkbox for BIO and Save.  Do this for all the security profiles you wish to have this access type.

Now its time to make sure your NarcBox is running on a biometric capable firmware.  You will need be running on firmware 3.16 or higher.  To check this on your NarcBox, select the Settings (gear icon) -> System/NarcBox Info -> Tech Info.  The bottom line will show 'Firmware Version'.  If yours is 3.15 or lower, please update your firmware.  See NarcBox Firmware Updates for more info.

Once your NarcBox firmware is biometric ready, it's time to enroll the users biometric fingerprint.  To do this on the NarcBox, you will select the Settings (gear icon) -> Biometrics -> Enroll Print.  Enter the user PIN # or scan their RFID card.  When ready select 'Start'.  Place you finger lightly on the biometric sensor making sure that your finger is touching at least 1 side of the metal around the scanner.  When it beeps, remove finger and replace your finger back on lightly in the same spot and same position.  You will do this 3 times.  Each User can enroll one fingerprint only.  Once complete the biometric fingerprint will upload the template to our server.  This will take about 30 seconds.

Your Biometric Fingerprint is now ready to use!

Once all biometric fingerprints are loaded, you can now use them on all of your accounts biometric capable NarcBoxes.  You will want to make sure each NarcBoxes online settings are enabled, the NarcBox is running on firmware higher than 3.16 and 'Sync' each box to ensure the new uploaded fingerprints have been sent to your NarcBox.

Biometric Security

Our biometrics are behind 2 different types of encryptions.  First, the prints are not kept as a photograph, or any kind of intelligible image.  They are a specific template used only by our sensors that are just a bunch (1000) of jumbled up numbers and letters that don't really mean anything except to our sensors.   So as far as someone stealing your fingerprint, it isn't really a thing because there is not an image.

Second, on the server side (the cloud or website), everything is kept in an encrypted database.
On the Narcbox side, this data is kept in the sensor chip (not the SD card) and getting them off the chip as well as knowing what to do with a template would require very specific knowledge of our biometrics system and our getting access to our encrypted database.

Most people are concerned about the data being stolen in a reusable format or a photograph....luckily we have formatted these in a completely different manner so there is no need to worry.
